My brother Tommy was one of the mellowest people I ever knew. Not that he wouldn’t have stood up to you if you pushed him around, but he just seemed to have a chill gene that the rest of us lacked. Growing up he picked on me, his little sister, A LOT!! But in retrospect, he made me tough and I grew up wanting to be just like him. My lifelong interest in working with my hands comes from his example. I became a real “Tom-boy”. If I had been born in a different time, I probably would have ended up as a carpenter like him. There was great change in the 60s and 70s but it was still easier for me to pursue academics than vocational work.

I am watching a 70s movie “Paper Man” with Dean Stockwell. It is hard to believe what state of the art technology once looked like. I used punch cards in high school and the class wasn’t even called computing, it was called “Engineering Concepts”. So here I sit typing on a Chromebook with more power probably than a room full of 70s computers. The actors in the movie had longish hair and too wide lapels. I guess I’ve reached that age where i am a historian of sorts. That age is going to come sooner and sooner with each generation as technology is advancing at an ever increasing rate.
